David Byrne's TED Talk On How Place Drives Music

As his career grew, Talking Head founder David Byrne went from playing CBGB to Carnegie Hall. In this just released TED Talk video, recorded earlier this year, Byrne asks: 'Does the venue make the music?' From outdoor drumming to arena rock, he explores how context has pushed musical… Continue

Senegal in Boston ~ Teranga

"Teranga’’ means hospitality in Wolof, but it’s more than just a word, according to Marie-Claude Mendy, who made it the name of her restaurant. In her native Senegal, it’s a way of life, an integral part of the national character and a matter of pride.

Until Teranga opened in May, Boston didn’t have a Senegalese restaurant. Teranga exhibits a particular brand of cosmopolitan vibrancy one doesn’t see that often in Boston. Does it feel like New York? Not quite. Paris? Closer. I’m… Continue

Mastering Entrepreneurship?

This past weekend I was reading a blog post by Derek Sivers (founder of CD Baby) on Mastering Entrepreneurship. Derek wrote:

"After reading The Art of Learning, I was thinking of mastery : committing yourself to years of achieving mastery of one single thing. But - what the hell is mastery of entrepreneurship?

What are the… Continue

Taboo Salon :: music, art & culture under the table...

Taboo Salon is an instant spontaneous and and unhindered celebration. Taboo Salon is a self-made party that lends itself to whoever are present, whenever and wherever they are present, and with whatever tools they may have at their fingertips. Taboo Salon is a moment of human coalescing where human and cultural barriers are expressly let down for the sake of an aggregate experience of enjoyment and exploration. Through its contagious, festive… Continue

Clube do Balanco - The kings of "Samba Rock"

I LOVE this video -- set in a used record store with album covers papered over the walls and ceiling. It's full of dance and delivered in a smooth, classic, nostalgic style. I had to share this one with you...

In the same way that the Rolling Stones payed homage to the masters of the Delta Blues, Brazilian band Clube do Balanço is re-igniting the work of the masters of… Continue

Hello Brad, I 've been subscribed to Kalabash Music from almaot the beginning, and now am following Mondomix.
Bravo to you also for this second project.
I travel to Africa frequently, and have a project ( most interesting to share with you)
but want to write the proposal direct, not on public pages.
Please send me address to ricccccardo@yahoo.it, or better to riccccardo@gmail.com
it's simple, already buiolt, but with your musician's environment will be more effective even in terms of fund raising.
Unless this message is "privet" but please confirm to me.
There must be an "agreement to share some % for me as well
Ciao
Riccardo
ps, irene and tana were brought by me, ciao riccardo

Hi, I just posted an entry over on my blog about calabash and www.tuneyourworld.com. I refreshed my browser ... and the entire Calabash music store morphed in the Nat Geo online music store! The post is over at www.viewfromthedock.com (it's a site primarily for mac-related computer stuff, but I occasionally veer into other topics like this). Just wanted to let you know. I added an addendum to the post to remark on the change. Good luck with the project and congratulations on the Nat Geo partnership.
