Meet Ismail Fencioglu Turko Canadian singer and ud player
Profile Information
About Me:
Ismail Fencioglu - Born in Turkey in 1968 into a family with a deep, strong musical tradition, Ismail Fenciglu is both a professional singer and oud player. He began exploring music at a very early age. In 1986, he was received as professional oudist in Bursa’s Municipal Conservatory, and a year later, joined the Music Faculty of the State Conservatory of Istanbul Technical University to study Turkish singing. Over the next five years, he studied with teachers Alaeddin Yavasca, Bekir Sidki Sezgin and Tulin Yakarcelik, and became a member of the Turkish Classical Music State Choir, under the direction of Nevzat Atli. After his bachelor’s degree at the Conservatory, Ismail worked as composer and arranger, and since 1991, Ismail has become his own Oud maker. Oriental music is like architecture: both are ornate and refined. Ismail, a specialist of Turkish Ottoman instrumental and vocal musical tradition is now well-established in Canada’s musical landscape. His Fenci’s Ensemble offers a repertoire combining Oriental traditional music and Eastern original compositions. He’s performed at numerous festivals in Canada, and is frequently a guest soloist with other ensembles and orchestras. Ismail is also founder and director of the Ottawa and Montreal Turkish Music Choirs
