Mar. 20, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Mobile Ltd<941><CHL>, the country's largest telecom operator, said its net profit surged 29.4% year on year to RMB 112.79 billion from RMB 87.06 billion in 2007, according to the company's statement released on Thursday.
China Mobile's operating revenue hit RMB 412.3 million last year, representing a year-on-year growth of 15.5%. In the meantime, its total subscribers jumped 23.8% to more than 457 million.
The telecom carrier proposed a final dividend of HK$1.404 per share for the six-month period ending Dec. 30 2008. Thus, the total dividend for last year was HK$2.743 per share as compared to HK$2.098 in 2007, representing a 43% dividend payout ratio.
China Mobile, which obtained the 3G license in January, aims to expand its 3G network to 238 Chinese cities by the end of this year. Currently, it is constructing the TD-SCDMA networks in 28 cities and plans to offer 3G services in 38 cities before June.
In addition, the company still has plans to list in the Shanghai Stock Exchange, but not in the near term, said Wang Jianzhou, chairman of the Chinese mobile carrier.
